WE TALK FLOWER HALOS & MEOW CROWNS WITH MICHELLE MADONNA, THE BRAINS AND BEAUTY BEHIND FLOWER CHILDREN ONLY.
What inspired you to create Flower Children Only? The idea behind Flower Children Only came to me in a dream one night. I dreamt that I had created silk flower headbands of fun, beautiful colors. When I woke the next day I immediately told my mom about my amazing dream. It was my mom who convinced me to turn my dream into a reality. What had started as something that we did just for fun suddenly blew up and has blossomed into Flower Children Only.
Are you surprised by how popular it has become? I was incredibly surprised! When Flower Children Only began, it was purely for fun. I was making flower halos only for my friends or myself. Before I knew it, I was filling out the paperwork to form a corporation and hiring employees.
What does an average day look like to you? A typical day at TMG Headquarters starts at 8 am. My employees begin the day by preparing the one-of-a-kind silk flowers that are then used to create our handmade floral halo headbands. Our interns then clean and check the halo for any imperfections before filling the orders. I am usually kept busy throughout the day by returning emails, organizing the boutique orders, or making any specially placed orders. However, my favorite days are those when I have the time to spend the day designing new halos. If we love a new design, it is photographed and the flowers are ordered as soon as possible.
If you had to describe Flower Children Only in three words, what would they be? Wild and Free Spirited.
What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve come across since starting the brand? The biggest obstacle that I have come across has been the quick growth of the company. I wasn’t sure how to handle it. I was making every single order out of my apartment without any help before hundreds of orders began to come in. At first, I was worried that I would have to shut it down because I couldn’t keep up with the amount of orders. Luckily, with the help of my parents I was able to move the company into a larger space so that we were able to keep up with the demand.
The most rewarding? Making my Flower Children happy and seeing how beautiful each of them look in their flower halo are the most rewarding things. I love hearing from them on social media about how much they love the product.
What’s coming up for Spring/Summer 2015? We have been working on a clothing line and hopefully will debut a few of the pieces soon so that I am able to know what my Flower Children think.
