As part of the ever-expanding Marvel empire, AGENTS of S.H.E.I.L.D has proven to be yet another big hit. Costume designer Ann Foley is headed to MAGIC to share a little undercover secrets.
How did you get involved with MAGIC? Through the moderator of our panel Joe Kucharski.
Have you ever been to MAGIC before? I haven’t and I am so excited to be here for the first time.
What are the main points you will share with guests during the panel? How the costumes evolved from Season 1 to Season 2. We had a major shift in tone towards the end of Season 1 with the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the show got darker as did the costumes for the cast. When we started Season 2 I wanted the clothes to reflect the changes the cast went through—from Skye becoming an agent to Fitz learning how to cope with his neurological injuries to Simmons being undercover at Hydra.
What has been your favorite costume you designed for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so far? I’ve had so many but Agent May’s silver sequin wrap dress from Season 2 definitely comes to mind! Mockingbird & Deathlok run close seconds!
What are the biggest themes you try to convey about the cast through their attire? Remaining true to the characters that we established Season 1 even though we had a big shift in tone & direction Season 2.
We’re you a fan of the Marvel comic series? How did you prepare for the gig and what was your process when it came to bringing the wardrobe to life for the show? I was and am a huge fan of the Marvel Films & really loved the Avengers, so when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came along I jumped at the chance to be a part of it. I just did my research & made sure I stayed true to the universe that was established in the films.
