Thirty years ago, Vivienne Westwood unveiled her Spring/Summer 1985 collection entitled, Mini-Crini featuring the Rocking Horse Ballerina shoe. It was a turning point in fashion.

The legendary British designer remains one of the most influential in the fashion industry. She is credited with bringing back the punk movement and integrating it into mainstream fashion with her unique take on ready-to-wear, and international range of accessories and fragrances. To this day, The House of Westwood drives trends that span generations.

As a tribute to both the design’s 30 year anniversary as well as the punk rock movement’s 40th London anniversary, Westwood has teamed up with Brazilian plastic footwear brand Melissa Shoes to unveil the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Rocking Horse Ballerina—a reimagining of Westwood’s iconic shoe first debuted in 1985.

The style is fashioned in Melissa’s signature recyclable plastic and features a faux-wood platform with Westwood’s original cut-out construction and satin ribbons that lace-up the ankle and calf. The design is offered in four classic colorways: red, black, white and grey as well as in a limited edition rose gold hue. It launches this fall in-stores at Melissa’s ‘Galerias’ and Vivienne Westwood boutiques around the world retailing for US $250.

In celebration of the launch, Westwood and Melissa curated a special art installation at Galeria Melissa London that showcased archive footage of the Vivienne Westwood Harris Tweed collection, creating the backdrop for a special rocking horse shoe chandelier. On the lower-ground floor, prints from Westwood’s Mini-Crini and Harris Tweed collections pad the room, which surrounds a super-sized rocking horse platform complete with a saddle, inviting customers to ride the iconic Westwood shoe.

As far as celebrations go, this is one to remember. We look forward to another 30 years of fabulous footwear, fashion, and collaborations. — Shop.Melissa.com
