Created in 2012, LÁTELITA London has been attracting fans from around the globe with their unique fusion of Eastern influences and contemporary European design. We caught up with the talented designers to talk style, inspiration and the wonderful world of jewels.
How did you get started in the jewelry industry?
Created in 2013, LÁTELITA London has rapidly grown into a widely recognized and established brand, spotted on countless celebrities and gracing the pages of glossy magazines. Lee developed a passion for jewelry making as a way of exploring his creativity whilst working in corporate finance. After designing one off commissions for friends and family, he decided to turn his talent into a profession.
After studying traditional jewelry making techniques from the artisans of Istanbul, Al collaborated with Lee in developing the label which fused his Eastern influences with contemporary European design to create unique, intricate & elegant jewelry.
What materials do you most like to work with? We use delicate leathers and sterling silver together with a wide variety of semi-precious natural stones, sometimes crystals, always with smart contrasts of colored cubic zirconia.
The craftsmanship required is nothing short of fine jewelry however, the afford-ability is always granted through the use of alternative materials in our designs.
What’s one thing jewelry design has taught you about life? Always follow you gut instinct, more often than not, it will serve you well.
What’s your greatest professional accomplishment to date? Seeing our designs stocked at department stores, & curated boutiques such as Wolf & Badger and Jewelstreet.
What’s one thing people would never guess about you?
Lee: For someone so passionate about jewelry, I never wear it myself.
Al: I have a degree in mechanical engineering.
